HEBER CITY — Two people were killed in a crash northwest of Strawberry Reservoir Tuesday afternoon.
A pickup truck and a Volkswagen Passat were traveling opposite directions on U.S. 40 about 2:40 p.m. when the Passat crossed over the center line for an unknown reason, Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cameron Roden said.
A woman driving the Passat was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected in the crash, killing her on impact. A 3-year-old girl in the Passat, also unrestrained, was fully ejected from the Passat and killed on impact as well, a statement from Utah Highway Patrol said.
There were two other unrestrained children in the car who survived the crash, Utah Highway Patrol said. Both were flown to a hospital with “serious” injuries that did not, however, appear life-threatening, according to troopers.
The two men in the truck received injuries that also did not appear life-threatening and were transported by ambulance to a hospital. They were both “properly restrained” at the time of the crash, UHP said.
U.S. 40 was closed for several hours in both directions while emergency crews responded to the scene.
