PROVO — A Heber City woman has been charged with carjacking BYU students using a “realistic-looking BB gun” near Bridal Veil Falls over the weekend.

Heather Leann Murray, 35, was charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony; theft and property damage greater than $5,000, second-degree felonies; and four counts of aggravated assault and failure to stop at the command of law enforcement, third-degree felonies.

She also faces misdemeanor charges of failure to respond to an officer’s signal to stop, assault of a peace officer, possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia, and interference with a police officer.

Murray used a “realistic-looking BB gun” to threaten four BYU students in a truck near Bridal Veil Falls early Saturday, police said. Court documents state she forced them to get out of the truck and they ran to hide in bushes, where they called 911.

Murray then repeatedly did not comply with police officer’s commands to stop and drove the truck into the Provo River before running away, charges state. She was taken into custody shortly after.

Police said they found cocaine and drug pipes in a nearby car that was rented to Murray.
