SALT LAKE CITY — Westbound I-80 was shut down for several hours Sunday following a semitrailer rollover near the Quarry exit.

Traffic in the area was backed up all morning and into the afternoon and was being rerouted off of the freeway. The freeway was opened sometime before 3 p.m.

The westbound semitrailer left the roadway to the left and struck the barrier, then overturned and caught fire, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper Mike Gordon. Two passengers were transported to a hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, he said.

Hazardous materials crews were at the scene to clean up a fuel spill from the rollover.
