DUCHESNE — A Duchesne County Jail inmate who has been on the run since October has been located and arrested.

In November, the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office announced it was searching for Gattlyn Nicholes, 33, who ran away Oct. 1 while being taken to a rehabilitation facility.

The agency said around Oct. 23, a motor home was stolen from the Pinion Ridge area and was later found on fire on state Route 35 near the unincorporated community of Utahn, in Duchesne County. Police said Nicholes was “possibly observed” by witnesses at the fire, but he fled before officers arrived.

Nicholes was charged in multiple cases of vehicle theft in 2024, according to court records, and there were several warrants out for his arrest.

On Thursday, the Duchesne County sheriff received a tip that Nicholes was at a residence in the western part of the county. While executing a search warrant, deputies located Nicholes and took him into custody.

A different search warrant was executed on the same property earlier Thursday, but Nicholes had escaped through a trap door, a police booking affidavit states. Deputies reported finding syringes with Nicholes’ name on them and trace amounts of substance consistent with heroin were located in a camper van on the property during that same search.

Police said Nicholes has a history of fleeing and evading law enforcement and is being investigated for theft, assault, burglary, criminal mischief and drug possession.

“Detectives and deputies with the sheriff’s office have spent countless hours performing surveillance and following up on tips regarding Gattlyn’s whereabouts. His apprehension would not have been possible without the help of the public,” a statement from the sheriff said.
