OGDEN — An Ogden man was arrested Friday and accused of throwing gasoline on a housemate and setting her on fire.
Gregory Youngblood, 57, was arrested for investigation of aggravated arson, aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
Just before 2 a.m. Friday, police were called to a reported assault at 2946 Lincoln Avenue, according to a police booking affidavit. When officers arrived, they found a woman standing in the street with “several severe burns to her face, chest, shoulders and arm,” and hair on the side of her head was singed.
Police said the burns would likely cause “permanent disfigurement.”
The woman said she had been in a bedroom of the home with a friend who was going to give her a ride. The friend had agreed to give Youngblood a ride, as well. The woman said she and Youngblood, who lived in the same home, had been arguing about him having “sexual relations” with another resident of the home. She had shared her “displeasure” about Youngblood also getting a ride from the friend, according to the affidavit.
It was not made clear in court documents whether there was a romantic relationship between the woman and Youngblood or if they were merely housemates.
While the woman was speaking to the friend, police say Youngblood “entered the room, threw gasoline on her and set the gasoline on fire.”
A witness told police she saw Youngblood set the fire, and he then threw the woman to the floor and strangled her briefly before he ran out of the home through the back door, according to the affidavit.
Police used cellphone data to track Youngblood to Riverdale, Weber County, where he was arrested by the Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force team. They found a glass pipe of the type “commonly used to smoke methamphetamine” when they apprehended him, the affidavit states.
