SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested early Monday after allegedly breaking into a home and smashing things while he was naked. A bookings affidavit accused him of lewdness, burglary and property damage.
Octavio William Higareda Ramirez, 60, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Monday.
According to the affidavit, the incident happened in an apartment building on River Fringe Place in West Valley.
When officers arrived, they found Ramirez naked and surrounded by broken glass and food that they believe he had thrown around the kitchen.
The Rivera family’s cellphone video of the aftermath shows the upsetting, heartbreaking and shocking scene. Various food items, dishes, broken glass, plants, and other items cover their wood floors.
“He opened these (cabinets) right here, he ate (our food) and the items he doesn’t like he throws them,” said 10-year-old Maria to KSL-TV. She spoke with the permission of her mother, who only spoke Spanish.
After a brief struggle, Ramirez was arrested.
An officer later interviewed Ramirez, who said he heard loud noises coming from the apartment he was found in. According to the affidavit, Ramirez kicked the door open, walked inside and began throwing food and other items around the kitchen.
Maria recounts that Ramirez was not wearing anything. “No pants. No shirt. Nothing.”
Police say Ramirez also exposed himself to the occupants of the home, which included five adults and four children. All of the children were under the age of 10.
Additionally, the person who contacted authorities said they did not know who Ramirez was.
Per the affidavit, when police asked Ramirez his intent, he said he “planned on killing all of the residents.”
“He said, if you come (outside) I’m killing you,” said Maria.
He is currently being held without bail on investigation of 11 charges; one for burglary, one for property damage, and nine for lewdness.
The family is still trying to figure out why someone would want to terrorize a family, especially with young kids.
“I’m scared, everybody (is) scared,” said Maria.
