ST. GEORGE — Two St. George servers received an unexpected surprise at work.
A group of approximately 20 women recently took part in an annual event dubbed “Tip-A-Server” at the St. George Olive Garden.
For this event, the women all agreed to give a large tip so that their server would receive an unexpected financial blessing. This year’s tip was $1,730, split into two payments of $865 for the two people who served the women their meal.
One of the group members, Rachel Halgren, told St. George News that this event has been around in some form for the past five years and is currently led by her and Alysha Mortensen.
“So I’ve done it for five years, and this was the fourth year that Alysha’s been hosting one,” Halgren said, adding that the group is “something really special to be a part of.”
Local restaurants where the group has given their server a large tip include Cracker Barrel, Olive Garden and Buffalo Wild Wings, Halgren said, adding that the group has previously accepted nominations of particular servers, which helped them decide which restaurant to dine at in a given year.
“Usually, we’ll post it on our personal Facebook pages or the ‘St. George Lady Friends’ Facebook page,” Halgren said. “That’s got thousands of women in that group, and Alysha administrates that group.”
But the women also want to ensure that the tip is a surprise, so sometimes the restaurant has been chosen at random. This was the case when the women went to Olive Garden this year. They voted between three or four restaurants, and Olive Garden won the day.
