DUCHESNE — No one from the Duchesne High School boys’ basketball team will be charged in connection to a reported sexual assault from earlier this year, prosecutors said Thursday.

Though police initially said one of those players could face charges, prosecutors decided not to charge anyone.

“After a thorough review of the available and admissible evidence, the Iron County Attorney’s Office has decided not to pursue charges in this matter at this time as we could not meet the burden of proof required to file charges,” said Trajan Evans, deputy Iron County attorney, in a statement this week. “This decision comes with the support of the alleged victim’s parents.”

Multiple basketball players were investigated in connection with the incident that was reported to have occurred at a hotel during the 2A state basketball tournament in Cedar City in February.

After news of the investigation became public in May, the Duchesne County School District superintendent said officials were taking the matter seriously but declined to say whether any students had been disciplined.
